The Summer Course carried out by the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences discusses issues related to parenting practices, child growth and development, including the planning related to the field activities. The course takes on the topic of parenting with the main focus on the quality of children through good care. Improved parenting practices will have a greater influence on children’s well-being. This activity does not only provide participants with insight and knowledge related to the implementation of good parenting practices but also provides advantages for families in the area where the field activities are carried out.

This Summer Course Program consists of in-class lectures, field surveys, and a mini-seminar which are conducted for 11 days. After conducting the observation field, students are expected to be able to explain the parenting practice in rural areas at a mini-seminar session. This Summer Course Program is a credit-earning academic program that provides 2 credits.

  • Students are able to identify the growth and quality of children, rural family life in Indonesia, the portrait of parenting practices in Indonesian rural families, the portrait of parenting practices in Malaysia, and the portrait of parenting practices in Thailand.
  • Students are able to identify attachment as the basis of interaction between parents and children and how to measure and assess it, positive communication as the key of parent-child interaction as well as how to measure and assess it, application of positive discipline in parenting practices as well as how to measure and assess it, knowledge and knowledge and self-confidence of parents in parenting as well as how to measure and assess it, child development instruments, child quality, and parenting practices.
  • Students are able to identify conditions in the field and adapt to the living environment.
  • Students are able to identify and understand the condition of rural families in terms of child development and quality, attachment between parents and children, positive communication between parents and children, application of positive discipline in parenting practices, knowledge and self-confidence of parents in parenting.
  • Students are able to develop parenting capacity building programs.
  • Students are able to present the results of their activities through a mini-seminar activity.

  • Independent activity: 16 hours
  • Practicum/Field Observation: 45.3 Hours

The total credits earned by participants from the summer course can be transferred to the course: Summer Course (IPB 200) (Credit: 2(1-1))

    The course fee is 300 USD for International Participants and IDR 3.000.000 for Indonesia Domestic Participant (non–refundable). The fee includes accommodation (sharing room), meals, local transportation, course kits, and leisure activities in Bandung.
